Tom of Finland Dome Karukoski’s film was conquered all over the world, was the Oscar candidate for Finland and part of the official program of the Independence Day of Finland. Pekka Strang and Lauri Tilkanen are protagonists in the roles of Tom and Vel. The film carries the artist from World War II to AIDS epidemic and celebrated as a subculture hero.

“I am Tom of Finland” campaign With an image generator for the campaign, anyone can do a “selfie” with a Tom of Finland graphic and share it with their friends in their own channels with the hashtag #IAMTOMOFFINLAND. The aim was to create a platform for Finns and tools to express their support for equality and film themes. Bus stops saw the biggest celebrities in Finland à la TOM.

Tom of Finland: The Musical With the concept of the Turku City Theater, Tom of Finland and his art have been one of the greatest influential actors in the globalization of homosexuality and achieving a more equal status. “TOM’s World” gets comic and fictional shades. The work gives a rarely described perspective on Finnish life-time from the war to the end of the last millennium. The music was composed by Jussi Vahvaselkä and Jori Sjöroos. Director and choreography was Reija Wäre, with Olli Rahkonen in the lead.

BOOK OF THE YEAR
With Closed Secrets: The Letters of Tom of Finland by Susanna Luoto
The humane voice of a homoerotic man mastered a multi-dimensional image of a man we thought we knew about his picture. The vast correspondence is worth thousands of drawings. Toms’s correspondence covers the years 1940-1991. They include a brother, a young soldier, a musician and a commercial, but also a fetishist, an artist, a world traveler, a friend, a business partner, and an aging man suffering from emphysema.
