Opening Reception
Saturday, April 14, 2012, 7:00 pm – Midnight

Opening on the weekend of Miami Beach Gay Pride,
this exhibit of 20 original drawings and paintings
focuses on artwork that greatly influences Gay culture
by challenging oppressive stereotypes.
By depicting masculine men enjoying their sexuality free of shame,
Tom of Finland has had an important effect on global culture.

Five decades of this prolific artist’s work is represented
and shows the development of his techniques
and the breadth of his subject matter,
with many pieces shown to the public for the very first time.

Tom of Finland’s art continues to play an important role in promoting self-confidence,
openness and a positive self-image in the Gay community.
Even with progress in Gay rights, stereotyping continues in entertainment and media,
proving that a discussion about the diversity
of masculine and feminine role models is as relevant now, as ever.

The curator, Volker Morlock,
will give a talk on the pioneering artist at the opening.

KAI TEICHERT, "John Palatinus", 2012

a one night stand…

John Palatinus

John Palatinus is one of the few surviving leaders in the fight for the freedom to disseminate Gay photography and art during the 1950s and ’60s. He is a legendary photographer from an era now called the “Golden Age of Physique Photography”.

During his five-week U.S. trip, Kai Teichert modelled in clay the head portrait of Palatinus in Palm Springs, California, and finished the work in New York City, March 2012.

Photos, charcoal drawings and projections of Kai Teichert will be accompanied by a series of highly acclaimed photographs of John Palatinus. These are the physique photographs from the 1950s. John Palatinus will be present via Skype on this evening.

Tuesday, March 27th,  2012.  8-10pm

“Just So Horny” by Michael Kirwan

Events of Interest

Without a doubt Michael Kirwan’s illustrations are sexually charged, quite often even pretty horny—but they are also a witty distillate of gay lust and realities. It’s seeing, understanding and painting: Kirwan doesn’t care for soft-focus and smooth idolization of beauty; comparable to Otto Dix he rather gets inspired by mere lust than high-gloss desires. His idea of sex is not about after shave and eau de toilette, it’s about sweat and hot breath.

This unashamedly depiction on greedy maleness
isn’t something ordinary for sure, and the reader will be rewarded richly.
