Efter att i ett år ha visats i Åbo under Kulturhuvudstadsåret 2011 kom utställningen så till Stockholm och det Kulturhus som även i år blir Pride House.När Kulturhuset på onsdagskvällen bjöd till vernissage på Tom of Finland-utställningen kom Tom of Finland Foundations Durk Dehner för att medverka. På plats fanns även bland annat Finlands ambassadör Harry Helenius liksom kulturattaché Cita Högnabba och Åbo Kulturhuvudstadsårs Cay Sevón.

Gary Everett från hbt-kulturfestivalen Homotopia i Liverpool fanns på plats efter en intensiv veckas arbete med att få utställningen på plats.Kulturhusets Eric Sjöström, Everett, Sevón och QX förlagschef <bhöll tal och Durk Dehner gjorde så en specialvisning av de bilder som visas av Touko Laaksonensverk som spänner från 1944 fram till 1990, bara ett år innan han avled i Helsingfors.

arbete i Finland. Utställningen pågår under sommaren och över Stockholm Pride och planer finns att hålla ett antal seminarier kring utställningen i samband med festivalen.

At the opening was Tom of Finland Foundation’s cofounder and president, Durk Dehner, Finnish Ambassador Harry Helenius as well as cultural attaché Cita Högnabba, Turku Culture Capital’s Cay Sevón and Gary Everett from LGBT arts festival Homotopia in Liverpool.

Kulturhuset’s Eric Sjostrom, Everett, Sevón and QX Publishing Manager and Durk Dehner had a special viewing of the works by Touko Laaksonen spanning 1944 until 1990, just one year before the artist died in Helsinki.

Currently, there are efforts to archive and build collections of Tom of Finland’s work in Finland. The exhibition runs during the summer and Stockholm Pride. There are plans to hold a series of seminars on the exhibition in conjunction with the festival.

Tom of Finland-utställning öppnades på Kulturhuset

Great opening for the Tom of Finland exhibition. The Finnish Ambassador said he was immensely proud of TOM.  This is the first time ToFF’s permanent collection has been seen in Sweden. Thanks to all of the funders, partners, friends and supporters for making this special event happen.

The success from the Turku 2011 European Capital of Culture is coming to Stockholm! Tom of Finland exhbition will be seen in Kulturhuset in Stockholm 28 June – 19 August 2012.

For 40 years, the artist Tom of Finland has been a major Gay icon. His drawings have inspired the fantasies of generations of homosexual men. Today he is regarded as the most influential creator of Gay pornographic images, and is represented in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2009, he was featured in the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennial. He died in 1991. 

This exhibition is produced by Kulturhuset in association with Homotopia, Liverpool, and Tom of Finland Foundation, Los Angeles.

I slutet av juni kommer en stor del av den Tom of Finland-utställning som förra året visades i Åbo,  till Kulturhuset i Stockholm. Med ett stort

bidrag från olika finska institutioner, ett enormt engagemang från Gary Everett som curator från Homotopia i Liverpool har till slut en utställning med ett bra urval av Tom of Finlands verk kunnat sys ihop på Kulturhuset i Stockholm.
En stor del av de verk som visades under “Tom kommer hem”-utställningen i Åbo förra året kommer att finnas med i Stockholm och det hela blir till en manifestation av det starka band som fanns mellan Touko Laaksonen och Sverige.

Ett band som fanns på det personliga planet men som också kom till uttryck genom de många fina verk som konstnären skapade direkt för SLM-Stockholm.
Det var också här i Sverige, liksom i Danmark, som hans bilder och inte minst seriealbum fick en kommersiell spridning. Efter att ha levererat bilder till amerikanska male physic-tidningar, tog Axel och Eigil Axgils i Danmark och Revolt Press i Åseda, som drevs av Michael Holm och Geurt Staal, tag i utgivningen av Toms arbeten.

När Tom of Finland Foundation, med eldsjälen Durk Dehner på 80-talet började samla in Touko Laaksonens arbeten kom en stor del av samlingen att bestå av just gåvor från Revolt Press.
Flera av dessa hittar nu tillbaks till Sverige för att visas på Homotopias och ToF Foundations utställning.
samband med Stockholm Pride i slutet av juli och början av augusti planeras ett antal seminarier kring Tom of Finlands verksamhet på Kulturhuset som även i år skrudas om till ett Pride House.

In late June, a large part of the Tom of Finland exhibition that was shown last year in Turku, comes to Kulturhuset in Stockholm. Much of the work that was shown during the “Tom comes home” exhibition in Turku last year will be featured in Stockholm and you will see a manifestation of the strong ties that existed between Touko Laaksonen and Sweden.

Kansainvälisestikin tunnetun suomalaisen kuvataiteilijan Tom of Finlandin alias Touko Laaksosen (1920–1991) näyttely tulee Tukholmaan.

Homotopia-organisaatio (Liverpool, UK) tuo Tukholmaan kattavan kokoelman Tom of Finlandin töitä aina varhaisista nuoruusvuosien luonnoksista myöhempiin töihin. Näyttelyn työt kootaan Los Angelesissa toimivan Tom of Finland -säätiön kokoelmista.

Tom of Finlandin legendaarisen maineen saaneet homoeroottiset työt nousivat eräänlaisiksi maskuliinisten homomiesten ikonimaisiksi stereotyypeiksi ympäri maailman.

The internationally known Finnish artist Tom of Finland (aka Touko Laaksonen, 1920-1991) has an exhibition coming to Stockholm.

Homotopia organization in Liverpool brings a comprehensive collection of Tom of Finland’s work from Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles.

 The year-long exhibition attracted a record audience of 90,000 in Turku, Finland and is now touring to the prestigious Kulturhuset Stockholm
in June 2012 for 3 months.

Cay Sevón, CEO of Turku 2011 Foundation said, “Tom of Finland Retrospective was one of the most valuable parts of the artistic programme of the European Capital of Culture year. The exhibition attracted significant national and international interest. We are all very thrilled it will continue”.

The exhibition was a key part of Turku European Capital of Culture 2011
and is presented by Turku 2011 Foundation; Homotopia, Liverpool;
and Tom of Finland Foundation.
