Rick Castro will present a collection of his photography from 1986 thru 2015, along with books, zines & artworks from his fetish art gallery, Antebellum.
Rick Castro Dungeon will be presented as a live installation/performance space with activities during the Tom of Finland Art & Culture Festival. Along with visuals, photography, books, art (available for sale), there will be continuous live art performances incorporated in the dungeon cage.
3rd October – 5:30p – Special Dedication. Please join Rick in singing happy birthday to the late, great literary icon, Gore Vidal. On view will be Rick’s portraits of Gore Vidal taken at his home in 2006.
In the late ’80s, Durk Dehner was the publisher of Rick’s first book, CASTRO.
In early 1990, Durk Dehner hosted Rick for his first book signing in the dungeon at TOM House; this was the first time the dungeon was opened to the public.
Twenty-five years later, Tom of Finland Foundation will host Rick Castro back in the dungeon where he belongs.
Rick Castro is a filmmaker, photographer, curator, blogger, and a lifelong resident of Los Angeles. He co-directed & co-wrote with Bruce LaBruce the cult classic, Hustler White (1996) and directed Plushies & Furries for MTV (2001), the first documentary to present the subculture of Furries to the mainstream.
Rick has two published books of photography – Castro (1990) published by DPR Press and 13 Years of Bondage (2004), published by Fluxion Editions. Rick’s photography and films have been presented world wide and his work is archived at The Alfred Kinsey Institute, UCLA Library & Legacy Projects, The Chicago Leather Museum, One Archives Foundation USC, Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay & Lesbian Art, and Tom of Finland Foundation.
In 2005 Rick founded Antebellum Gallery Hollywood, the world’s first fetish art gallery.
