| "There is a great reunion taking place.
The man who gave us so much in identity, and how
to be proud, is having a gathering in the city of
his passions. Touko Laaksonen, aka Tom of Finland, had a deep
devotion for Berlin, its lifestyle and its men. Having an
exhibition of Tom’s in the city of his dreams is an
honor (and worth getting a little drunk over!). The Finns
know how to do some serious drinking… And we know how
to acknowledge one of our own…
"The show is a combination of works from our Permanent
Collection and works for sale. Together they make up a mighty
powerful exhibit! Heavy lines of uniforms and leather. Tom
depicted these sexy, black-leather-clad uniform men that made
us all go weak in the knees. We have emulated and imitated
them.
"I have been here for sixty years. I’m proud to
say that I’m so proud and have such a feeling of being
really unique and special as Homosexual. I invite all of you
to find your way to the new mecca of the queer and art world:
The New Berlin. We are drawn there for it pulls us —
and it’s not about it being the coolest place —
no, it’s the right place for us as a tribe in our next
era…
"So, who knows who will live there? We go there to wash
our spirits and define who we are. I always tell the youngsters
not to believe a word I say — just try it on and see
how it fits… Welcome to Tom’s World…"
