Painting Without Text
Works by Jorge Ortega
(Translation by Google)
Canary Area. Creating and Culture (c / Alcalá,
91, Madrid), center open by the Government of the Canary Islands as
part of the program Septenio shows until 30 April, a selection of the
latest production of Jorge Ortega. Under the title 'Painting without
text', the Canary artist offers a journey through a series of works
that echo the pictorial motif, in a re-paint the same picture from the
desire to make these lines as if for the first time.
In this new era painter leads us to an imaginary in which
see us represented, trapping the viewer with the color and gesture,
using the poetic, sensory, paradox and contradiction. "I propose
the painting as an experience outside the text and words, as a vehicle
to learn. Painting seeking intensity, that contemplation is the experience,"
said Ortega.
A twenty pieces shape this sample, extracted from your
project exhibition 'Green Magenta', Canary Islands opened in late 2009.
In this proposal, the works are grouped again and again to paint the
same image. A first set would be related to other in history, where
they no longer are the shepherds who came to stare back, but this lady,
"who I am and I also smile staring back in their carry bags."
Her paintings are not the illustration of an idea, proposed
from the outset to rescue an imaginary audience. A man built by the
need to be supplemented by an unsatisfied desire for everything, where
everything is set for renewal, and the need to assert and establish
in-picture where recognized. "The elements that give meaning to
us today from heterogeneous sources. I retrieve images from advertising.
The same previously been stolen from the mythical, the religious, spiritual
fantasies of Orientalism and the process have been drained to be used
as bait. Some models that instruct and although we are representing
our ideals, are in constant construction and change, "says the
artist.
The identity, the instability of the self is something
common to all. Self-portraits in which his body replaced by those of
any, to open a link between memory and the present.
Beware of the certainty of the painting to communicate,
but relying on it as one of the most direct, this way Jorge Ortega is
aware that each mark in the painting is pre-loaded content and to paint
and give new meaning to resources, one strategy is to play. Reaffirming
the content that we presuppose in every gesture, mark, while contradicting
others also presupposed.
In all of the pieces is the all that body almost always
naked. Corporal away as ideals but always covered. From the apparent
simplicity of the painting inaccurate, simultaneous texts, and the stain
color, going through an appointment or a referral. A place of impossibility
between the transcendent and the banal. There, where the images dissolve
the meanings in the irresolvable tension between thought and paint finishes
to complete what appears to be incomplete.
