Intensely personal. Hauntingly beautiful. Dark and confrontational. Aunia Kahn doesn’t pull her punches. Creating exquisitely rendered self-portraits that look like movie stills, Kahn combines photography, painting, collage, and digital magic to create arresting images which depict hardship, triumph, and the power of the human spirit. PHD Gallery will showcase more than a dozen of Aunia Kahn’s images.

Kahn, a Michigan native, is a self-taught figurative artist who was raised in an explosive and unpredictable home environment and sought refuge through creativity and the arts. Her work combines many disciplines, including photography, painting and collage. She designs, builds, and executes characters, non-existent places, dreams, illusions, and fears into creation. Each work makes use of her own likeness in movie-like stills, and explores varied taboo and often controversial subjects; challenging viewers to reevaluate their preconceived notions. Yet she connects with her audience through honest feeling and emotions.
