Many of Hinkle's pieces begin with a basic nude photograph; often a torso shot of himself, and evolve in a natural flow from there. The photos are adhered to the canvas and altered with a mixed-media process that involves the inclusion of purely abstract elements, adding both texture and color to the overall piece, and the very effective use of graffiti-like imagery to help tell the story and further render each finished piece as a special moment captured in time.

Hinkle's paintings often deal with current events, the subjective nature of art, and issues such as censorship. The tasteful erotic appeal of his paintings are sure to be pleasing to many viewers. .
