Charla
Hathaway — certified sexologist, educator and author —
along with her videographer friend, Jack Lee, created a documentary
about her Uncle Bob who started dressing "like a lady"
(his words) at age 84 after his wife, her Aunt Eleanor, died.
She feels his story is
brave and fascinating. So she traveled to Florida last spring to
interview him, two of his daughters, and her mom who was a traveling
buddy with him and Eleanor. Uncle Bob passed away last fall, and
here's
his story (12 minutes).
Note: This is
a not streaming video. The entire clip must download before it will
begin to play, which can take several minutes. A good approach might
be to right-click and download the clip. When the download is done
— play it!

Rare & Raw: Deadline is December 20, 2010
The
Transmission Commission Collective (TCC) seeks submissions for Rare
& Raw; a curated exhibition exploring queer representation,
historical visual culture and contemporary art production.
The intention of RARE & RAW is to promote dialogue that is invested
in queer history and artistic production. Queer communities are experiencing
an overwhelming gap between older and younger generations—due
to technology and generational lifestyles as well as the many lives
decimated by AIDS. The past remains integral to queer epistemology
and representation.

| GAY
BAR:
The Fabulous, True Story of a Daring Woman and Her Boys in the 1950s.

While
not focused on erotic art, the Foundation strongly supports documenting
our gay heritage.
This
book is a revival of an extraordinary memoir, first published in San
Francisco in 1957, written by Helen Branson, a woman whose affection
for gay men led her to operate a bar for them in Hollywood (at 5124
Melrose) in the 1950s. The new edition (U of Wis Press) includes the
original contents plus a similar amount of new material, including
photographs, by Will Fellows.

GLENDALE AREA TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS 2010-2011

[A
non-erotic art opportunity for artists — as this project seems
to aimed towards "family fare". — editor.]
This
series of curated temporary exhibitions will take place in downtown
Glendale, beginning in Fall 2010 and continuing through summer 2011.
The project aims to intervene into the retail fabric of this well
trafficked area with a lively cultural program of exhibitions and
events.
GATE invites emerging
and established artists to submit their qualifications to exhibit
work in temporary exhibition spaces and window displays (see project
area map). Professional artists and artist groups working in all media
(including performance) are encouraged to apply. Artists seeking to
execute innovative site-specific projects are particularly encouraged
to apply.
