TOM OF FINLAND FOUNDATION
West
Hollywood Endorses Tom of Finland Art Fair

Tom
of Finland Foundation (ToFF) has been a nonprofit Educational Archive
for the LGBT community for over a quarter century and is very proud
to have the City of West Hollywood as Co-sponsor. Earlier this year,
the City’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission voted not to be a
sponsor the 2011 Fair, unlike it had previously for several years.
This decision sparked controversy, and resulted in an extraordinary
outpouring of support for the Foundation and the Fair from the community
and from members of the City government. ToFF thanks the Honorable
John Heilman, Mayor of West Hollwood, John Duran, Mayor Pro Tempore
and all Councilmembers for their support since 2003, and for their
inspiring words this year. A special thanks goes to Paul Arevalo,
City Manager, for his involvement.
The
Foundation also thanks Louie Pacheco, Mike Gerle, Sister Unity, Tom
Trafelet, Daddy Bo and slavegirl debbie, George Scileppi, Will Hildreth,
Jacob Prieto and Jim Boyle, Dan Berkowitz, Ivy Bottini, Ken Hurst,
David Keith Webster, Philip Hoskins, Steve Ganzell and Desiree Sol
for their enormous support.

Tip's
of the Hat and Odds & Ends:
 |
Craig Owen
was an invaluable Volunteer for our NYC Erotic Art Fair Weekends.
On Christmas night he was in the hospital in intensive care, and
“they thought it was not going to have a good outcome.”
He died in January. Craig
moved from New York about three years ago, and lived in North Hollywood. |

For the
9th consecutive year, the Tool Shed in Palm Springs has hosted its
annual Erotic
Art Expo, with the proceeds this year being donated to the Desert
AIDS Project.
Originally conceived by Dennis Cramer, Mr. Tool Shed 2003, this
art fair and silent auction has raised over $27 000 for various
organizations and charities serving the gay and leather community
of the Coachella Valley. This year, Mr. Palm Springs Leather 2011,
Drew Kramer and Tool Shed manager Chris Rees pulled out all the
stops making the expo their largest one to date.
The signed copy
of the lithograph Perfection that Tom of Finland Foundation donated
helped bring in more than $300 for the DAP Special thanks goes out
to TOM House residents Thomas BW Nicholson and Jake Prieto (pictured)
for framing and packing, and Drew Kramer for his excellent delivery. |

Tom of
Finland Foundation donated this preliminary sketch that Tom did
of Chuck Renslow to be with the finished work that is part of the
permanent collection of the Leather Archives and Museum.
Chuck Renslow
is the founder, in 1979, of International Mr. Leather. When artist
Dom “Etienne” died, Renslow combined his collection
of Etienne’s art with his own personal archives from his business
and his life. These were the foundation of the Leather Archives
and Museum, which Renslow co-created with Tony DeBlase in 1991.
Renslow is the president of the Archives and has been since it’s
conception.

Tom of
Finland Foundation donated this preliminary drawing through Feature
Inc. — the Foundation's New York art representative —
to AIDS Communty Research Initiative of America (ACRIA) for their
Annual Holiday Dinner last December. The dinner was hosted by InStyle
Magazine and the Urban Zen Center at the Stephan Weiss Studio, NYC.
Scott Drevnig,
ACRIA's Manager, Events & Art Marketing, thanked the Foundation
and reported that "The piece sold for a very good price and
we are so happy it's gone to a great home."

Everyone
involved with the Mr. Leather Bear Contest 2011 was at TOM House
today. It comes so naturally to the leather brotherhood to pitch
in and do whatever they can. In the midst of preparing for the contest,
everyone still had time to address and stamp the entire mailing
for the Erotic Art Fair Weekend! Amazing.
The Foundation is so very thankful. Volunteers make TOM’s Foundation
possible.

Day
on Masculinity in the Tom of Finland Exhibition!
Saturday, March 5 · 2:00 PM
– 5:00 PM
A collaboration between the Association Regnbågsankan and
Turku in 2011
“He is so handsome,
he must be gay.” A talk about manhood with a focus on appearance
ideals. Location: Logomos seminar
We wonder how
the ideal man looks like today, how ideals are created and how they
are maintained. We treat the subject also by questions about homosexuality.
Is there such so that one is called oman must not be “too”
good looking and that a gay man, however should be nice to be better
treated? Panelists include Tom of Finland-expert Berndt Arell, sociologist
January Wickman and this year’s Mr. Gay Finland Kenneth Liukkonen.
The discussion is led by Anders Ahlbäck.
