Los
Angeles Band of Brothers roll up their [leather] sleeves
at TOM House. Fundraising, moving furniture - restoring
furniture, creating art, framing art, stained glass repair, arranging,
scrubbing, laughing — is there anything these men can’t
do?
ToFF couldn’t do all
we do without their help and support and we are 100% grateful.
L. A. Band of Brothers is a fraternal organization of titleholders
who have competed in the Mr. Los Angeles Leather Contest. They dedicate
themselves to the support of the Leather and LGBTQ Communities for
the betterment of all.

Russia Moves to Enact Anti-Gay Law Nationwide
Tom of Finland Exhibition Canceled

In this Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 file photo, Russian Gay
rights campaigner
Pavel Samburov (center left) and five other Gay rights activists kiss
during a protest
near the State Duma, Russia’s lower parliament chamber, in Moscow, Russia.
A controversial bill banning “Homosexual propaganda” has been submitted
to
Russia’s lower house of parliament for the first of three hearings
Tuesday, Jan. 22. 2013. Associated Press/Misha Japaridze.
"In September, 2012
a major collaboration in St. Petersburg was cancelled following a hugely
successful exhibition of Tom of Finland in the Gay artist’s home city
of Turku, Finland. This was done on the advice of the British Embassy
due to the severe and insidious laws that had been passed. Now the same
laws are being rolled out across the whole of Russia: A worrying development,
especially as homophobic and transphobic violence increases." —

"A group of experts
from the United Nations have urged Russia to drop its draft law forbidding
“homosexual propaganda”, and have said that it would undermine the human
rights of LGBT people in the country.
"The draft law, submitted in March 2012, details that the “promotion
of homosexuality” among children could warrant fines of 4,000-5,000
rubles (£85-105) for individuals, 40,000-50,000 rubles (£850-1050)
for officials, and 400-500,000 (£8,500-10,500) rubles for businesses.
"Similar laws have already been passed regionally in ten different
areas of Russia, but this bill would impose the law nationwide. 388
members of the state Duma voted for the bill, one voted against, and
one member chose to abstain. 60 others did not vote."

“I love Russia, but I want
another Russia,” said Abduljalilov, 30, who now works as a clerk. “It’s
a pity I can’t spend my life on creative projects instead of banging
my head against the wall and repeating, ‘I’m normal, I’m normal.’ “

REX (American),
Leather Bar, 1978, Pen & ink on paper,
13.63" x 17.25", © 1978 Drawings by REX
This is the earliest original
REX in the artist’s collection. It was done in 1978 for a French
porno film poster and was returned to him in the 1990s when he was in
living in New York. On July 10, 1981, a major fire on Folsom Street
in San Francisco destroyed the homes (along with artwork and photographs)
of REX, photographer Mark I. Chester and many Leathermen. As such, Leather
Bar is one of the few original drawings surviving from his pre-1980
period.
REX tells the story of encountering Tom of Finland’s liberating
images in a magazine store in Manhattan in the ‘60s. Tom’s
work was life changing for Homosexuals who encountered it. REX was no
exception and he admits how TOM’s integrity influenced him.
ToFF is honored to accept this historical and significant gift into
its collection.

| One Of Germany’s
Best-selling Gay Novels, Now In English
On a Wednesday in September

A moving tale of guilt, redemption and the survival of
love.
Journalist and psychotherapist
Stephan Niederwieser became known as an author in Germany, his home
country, because of this very novel. On a Wednesday in September
was voted Best Gay Fiction of the Year in 1998. Now, one of Germany’s
best-selling Gay novels, is finally available in English.
When Edvard hands his lover
a ring to seal their friendship, he triggers an emotional avalanche:
Bernhard is overwhelmed with images from the past: Nazi Germany, a blond
soldier, and trails of blood in the snow. While seeking answers to these
haunting images, Bernhard crosses paths with many strangers: his close-lipped
father, stewardess Kim, grand seignior Raimondo, gigolo Fred, and his
own strong-willed mother Lydia. The ring connects the lives of these
strangers, and what seems contradictory finally comes together at the
end.
