Tom of Finland is alive!
Consul General Stefan Lindström hosting Academy of Motion Picture Arts and HFPA members for a Tom of Finland screening event with lead actor Pekka Strang, writer/Producer Aleksi Bardy, and S.R. Sharp of the Tom of Finland Foundation.
Tom of Finland’s impact on gay culture is hard to overstate, both internally and externally. Internally as a mean of communication, as it made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to the way sexual minorities perceive themselves, to realize they mattered. Tom of Finland’s gift to gay culture is essentially one of sexual emancipation and slowly but surely acceptance —not merely in a legal sense, but in a larger, cultural sense as well. Tom of Finland is very much alive today and his enduring legacy helps keep that history alive. It’s about the gay community being visible and belonging to a community, a town, a city, a nation and the world.
